HB 278-POULTRY PROCESSING
Help us contact all KY legislators and ask them to support HB 278. We believe all farmers should have the option to process poultry on their farms. Kentucky is one of 2 states that do not allow farmers to process poultry on the farm. This option would...
1. Reduce overall expenses for the farmer who has to transport all poultry to a USDA certified facility; sometimes traveling more than 2 hours and 30 minutes one way!
2. Increase access to locally sourced protein options that are healthier for the consumer because the birds are raised using natural or organic methods.
3. Can encourage beginning and emerging poultry farmers to expand and scale their poultry production even if they have limited resources.
4. Strengthen our local and regional food systems.
5. Increase farm viability by allowing the farmer to process and sell all parts of the bird; little to no waste! The farmer bypasses the wholesale market by direct selling to customers and diversifies their farm operations with multiples sources of income.
6. Less stress on the animals.
